SUB AP! X PLAN B
THE WORLD WANTS TO TELL YOU THAT AMERICA IS COMING OUT OF A RECESSION. WE’RE HERE TO TELL YOU THAT, DESPITE ALL THE CHEERLEADING, HOORAHS, AND HIGH FIVES, THERE WILL ALWAYS BE A LOT OF WORK TO BE DONE — ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO BRINGING LIGHT TO TAMPA BAY’S CREATIVE CLASS.
Bands are born every day, and a few break up here and there too. Visual artists make the occasional piece of shitty art to go along with their veritable masterworks and documents of personal constant progression. Creative people are behaving the only way they know how to be without asking for anything from their neighbors in return.
Along the way, a citizenry hungry for locally-made, homegrown everything is looking for them, ready to share stories and images on social media and also turn their enthusiasm into real life support be it a paid cover charge, purchased album or t-shirt, or just a really fucking hearty round of applause and word of encouragement.
For the last five years (and for a decade before that as REAX magazine) Suburban Apologist has been committed to that cause, using the cotdamn world wide web to connect the dots between online consumption and the kind of consumption we do at the bars, galleries, public places and the living rooms of our friends where we neglect most adult responsibilities in favor of yelling loudly and sharing ideas about the people who inspire us. A few months ago, SubAp!’s own purveyor of good time, Joe D’Acunto, married his longtime promotions company Thx Mgmt with Brokenmold Entertainment. Anyone who knows Joe is aware that he will not be able to stay away from his mission of bringing high-quality, forward thinking talent to the Bay area, and his partnership with Brokenmold’s eight-year commitment to the same vision will only exacerbate that impulse.
SubAp!’s team is happy to have another angle to look at how are creatives are covered, and we really want you to call us out when you don’t think we’re doing a good job, so stay in touch, keep us plugged in, and most importantly don’t be afraid to join us. Come say what’s up — and let’s keep shaking up the neighborhood.
“We are passionate explorers driven to share, spotlight, and celebrate the creative facets of our culture because we truly believe that art in all forms and our communities build a foundation for a life worth living. Driven to learn as much as educate, the SubAp! mantra is simple,
‘Experience it. Share it. Give a good god damn.’ Everyone is welcome in the SubAp! house; let’s wake up the neighborhood.
